"MAMADY KEITA è nato nel 1950 nella savana guineana: iniziato al djembé dall'età di 7 anni, entra a far parte del Balletto Nazionale Djoliba di Guinea a 14 anni, diventandone presto il percussionista solista e in s-eguito il direttore artistico. Con Djoliba ha compiuto tournée in tutto il mondo, apparendo nei più importanti festival; già nel 1969, al Festival Panafricano di Algeri, riceve la medaglia d'oro e il titolo di "massimo percussionista africano", cui seguono numerosi progetti, partecipazioni, e 50 anni (!) di carriera che lo confermano uno dei più rappresentativi suonatori di djembé. Nel 1989 crea il suo gruppo SEWA KAN, una all-star band di 11 elementi tra musicisti, cantanti e danzatori, con cui continua a girare il mondo; SEWA KAN significa letteralmente “il suono della gioia” ed è ispirato dal proverbio africano che recita “…senza musica non vi è gioia, ma senza gioia non vi è musica…”, ben azzeccato per questo energico signore dal sorriso contagioso il quale ha saputo dimostrare come il djembé non sia meramente uno strumento di accompagnamento al servizio del canto e della danza, ma anche uno strumento solista attorno al quale si esprimono tutti gli altri componenti dell’orchestra." Finally I managed to visit it the Corridoio Vasariano! An incredible view over Florence along the 1 km long Corridor!

The Corridoio Vasariano is an elevated enclosed passageway in Florence which connects the Palazzo Vecchio with the Palazzo Pitti. The Corridor was built in 5 months by order of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici in 1564, to the design of Giorgio Vasari. It was commissioned in connection with the marriage of Cosimo's son, Francesco, with Johanna of Austria. The idea of an enclosed passageway was motivated by the Grand Duke's desire to move freely between his residence and the government palace, when, like most monarchs of the period, he felt insecure in public. The meat and fish market of Ponte Vecchio was moved to avoid its smell reaching into the passage, its place being taken by the goldsmith shops that still occupy the bridge.

The passageway now contains over 1000 paintings, all dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the important collection of Self-portraits by some of the most famous masters of painting of the 16th to the 20th century.

The title chosen for the 2011 edition of the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia is both evocative and compelling. The references it contains are obvious (from the theme of light, to the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud, from the writings of Walter Benjamin to the Biennale’s very structure composed of national pavilions), but this title also wishes to emphasize one of art’s intrinsic characteristics: it is a unique and illuminating experience.

My personal comment is not really positive. I prefered the previous edition, this time I really felt like we are in a period of crisis... The Italian pavillon, called "L'arte non è cosa nostra", looked like a real "cosa nostra" stuff, with random people suggesting their own friends for the exposition. But anyway, Venice is always a very special place and I had a lovely weekend with daddy! By the way... I love the Spritz!

Ilala (Lake Malawi)

Ilala is a motor ship that has plied Lake Malawi in East Africa since 1951. She carries both passengers and freight, and calls at major towns on both the Malawian and Mozambican coast, as well as at the two inhabited islands of the lake (Likoma and Chizumulu). While the ship is often late (reportedly by as much as 24 hours or more)*much more, trust me! and has sometimes broken down she remains the most important means of long-distance transport for the people living on the coast of the lake. She is 52mt long overall, has a gross tonnage of 620 tons and can accommodate up to 365 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. Yarrow Shipbuilders at Scotstoun near Glasgow, Scotland built Ilala for Nyasaland Railways in 1949. Once built, the ship was dismantled and transported to Malawi (then Nyasaland) in pieces, first by ship to Mozambique and then from Beira, Mozambique by rail and road to Chipoka. She began operating in 1951, and has run continuously since then.

Each day on board, amid the excited bell ringing, siren shrieks and hooting that seem inseparable from all maritime arrivals and departures, laughing crowds of Malawians line up on the Ilala's deck to disembark, cluttered up with baggage that includes bicycles, cages filled with squawking fowl, sewing machines and even tethered goats. They are ferried ashore in lighters to return an hour or so later crammed with another batch of passengers who quickly settle down in the cramped quarters to cards and singing and sleeping and the preparation of meals in little cooking pots. It all looks and sounds like a cross between Hampstead Heath on a Bank holiday and an Eastern market, but when the ship weighs anchor again the noise dies down and the first class passengers resume in their novels, their deck chairs and their worship of the sun.

At 10.30 we jump on a minibus from Chipata to Mfuwe waiting to get "full". At 12.40 with 24 people, kids, alive chickens and lots of luggages we leave for a 5 hours journey in a red dirt bumpy road. We arrive exhausted with red dust everywhere and we start walking towards the camp...not a good idea! Wild animals all around and the sun going fast down, lucky we get a lift. Three days in the Flatdogs Camp, fantastic camp with many elephants, monkeys and baboons, hippos walking around our tent. Morning safaris with the park waking up and night safaris to see the predators, walking safari to experience the bush on your feet, discovering the tracks and the poohs and approaching to a zebra up to two meters, super cool! I saw all the animals I wanted to see and many many more.

Questo è il villaggio di capanne di fronte al quale è stata costruita la scuola di Saint Joseph. Il livello di povertà è altissimo, i bambini si crescono tra di loro e le donne fanno i lavori pesanti. L'igiene è inesistente ma c'è un pozzo da cui prendere acqua. Stanno costruendo adesso la strada asfaltata per arrivarci (in occasione delle elezioni, tutto il mondo è paese...). La plastica resta ovunque (il resto della spazzatura viene bruciato per strada), la polvere però viene spazzata tutte le mattine. E' un agglomerato di capanne di fango, con tetti di foglie o eternit, cucinano il poco cibo (farina di mais bianco) con il carbone in strutture tonde aperte. Anziani, maialini, bambini sudicissimi e capre, chiese, stoffe colorate e sorrisi incuriositi che osservano i due "musungu" (musi bianchi)...
...e sono tutti così felici, gentili e ben disposti!

Due parole di spiegazione del "Progetto Zambia" il cui coordinatore è Davide, grazie al quale è stata costruita questa scuola per bambini poverissimi che non si possono permettere un'istruzione governativa, peraltro assente. Il buon motivo del viaggio!

<< Questo progetto nasce dall’esigenza profonda di dare una speranza a chi grida la sua povertà, il suo disagio, i suoi problemi, le sue malattie, senza che le parole riescano a raggiungere quella parte di mondo troppo sorda, troppo ingorda di benessere, per poterle sentire, ma che nonostante tutto calpesta la stessa terra, beve la stessa acqua, respira la stessa aria. Non possiamo continuare a rimanere indifferenti e con le mani in mano di fronte alle tante ingiustizie che colpiscono questo mondo; per questo abbiamo deciso di dare vita anche noi al nostro progetto, era troppo pesante starsene seduti senza muoversi.

Perché lo Zambia

Se analizziamo le problematiche del cosiddetto “terzo mondo” ci accorgiamo che sono talmente tante le realtà bisognose che sarebbe impossibile poter dare un sostegno attivo e concreto a tutti. Per questo abbiamo deciso di focalizzare la nostra attenzione sullo Zambia, in particolare a Kafue Estate, a circa 50 Km dalla capitale Lusaka.

Il fenomeno degli orfani in Zambia è un fenomeno molto preoccupante, se pensiamo che su una popolazione di circa 10.000.000 di abitanti, più di 600.000 sono orfani;è stato stimato che entro il 2010 questo numerò salirà ad 1.000.000.

Le motivazioni sono molteplici: le problematiche economiche, figlie di un’ideologia colonialista che purtroppo ancora oggi vive nella politiche di molte multinazionali, le quali vedono l’Africa come una fonte di arricchimento grazie al lavoro sottopagato nei campi dei nativi di questa nazione, e le malattie come l’AIDS, il vero flagello, mai contrastato seriamente con una politica di prevenzione.

Progetto Community School

Le Community School nascono soprattutto dall’esigenza di dare un’istruzione ai ragazzi che non hanno la possibilità di pagarsela e che spesso provengono da situazioni assai difficili. L’insegnamento è gratuito, con la sola richiesta di collaborare alla realizzazione e al mantenimento degli edifici scolastici sia da parte dei genitori, quando ci sono, sia da parte dei ragazzi. Queste scuole sono riconosciute a livello nazionale; alla fine della terza media (1° grado) gli alunni affrontano l’esame statale e ricevono il diploma che permette loro di accedere alle classi superiori.

Il 55% dei ragazzi che frequentano la Community School sono orfani, e tra loro, il 18% non ha più entrambi i genitori. Una percentuale molto alta e che tende a salire.

Il comune di Barberino V.E. ed il comune di San Casciano V.P.si stanno impegnando a mantenere lo stipendio annuale di 6 insegnanti della Community School di Solobon, con il versamento annuale di circa 5000 euro, iniziativa di vitale importanza, in quanto garantire lo stipendio agli insegnanti è una delle priorità necessarie ad assicurare l’educazione ai bimbi che frequenteranno la scuola.

Al momento i nostri sforzi sono concentrati sulla scuola di Solobon, inaugurata nel febbraio 2009, chè è stato il primo obiettivo del nostro progetto. La costruzione dei due blocchi di edifici, comprendenti 5 aule, più una sesta per i professori, ed una piccola stanza per le riunioni e gli incontri, e nel quale studiano 230 bambini dai 6 ai 12 anni, è stata interamernte sostenuta nel suo costo dalle associazioni che lavorano sul nostro territorio.

In un secondo momento, terminata completamente la realizzazione della scuola, il nostro impegno sarà quello di costruire la scuola secondaria, per permettere ai ragazzi che al momento frequentano la scuola di Solobon di poter continuare e terminare i loro studi. Ancora tanti comunque rimangono i bisogni di questa popolazione. Nel settembre 2010 una delegazione di abitanti di Barberino, tra cui il sindaco, si è recata in Zambia per richiedere al Ministero dell’istruzione lo sblocco di fondi per il mantenimento delle Community School da parte dello Stato zambiano. Al momento stiamo lavorando per avere un canale preferenziale che ci permetta di instaurare rapporti diretti con il comune di Kafue, il cui sindaco, nell’incontro avvenuto nel settembre 2010, si è detto ben disponibile a sostenere il nostro progetto, dandoci piena disponibilità ad aiutarci nei nostri obiettivi.

Molto importante è il lavoro che stiamo portando avanti nelle scuole di Barberino e Tavarnelle, denominato “Compagni di banco”. Attraverso questa iniziativa i bambini dei due comuni e quelli delle community school di Kafue si scambiano quaderni dove hanno modo di entrare in contatto, attraverso scritti e disegni, per conoscersi e per sensibilizzarsi sui problemi del mondo che li circonda.

Per sviluppare il progetto la logica sarà quella della collaborazione con le altre decine di circoli ARCI, e non solo, presenti nella provincia di Firenze. L’ARCI Empolese Valdelsa è già parte attiva e basilare del progetto “Community School”; la dinamicità dei vari circoli ed il sostegno del comune, al quale si cercherà di aggiungerne altri, permetteranno di contribuire in maniera solida e fattiva alla realizzazione dei progetti. A tal fine è nato il progetto parallelo “RETE DEI CIRCOLI COOPERANTI”, per riuscire a mettere in contatto i vari circoli arci presenti sotto la direzione dell’Arci Empolese Valdelsa, con l’obiettivo di far scambiare esperienze tra i circoli, e nello stesso tempo creare il più largo consenso e la più grande condivisione possibile del nostro progetto. >>

Estremamente emozionante. Un calorosissimo benvenuto con spetttacoli di danze tradizionali, canti e poemi, musica e tantissima riconoscenza per avergli dato la possibilità di imparare. Pranzo con gli insegnanti, nsima e pollo rigorosamente con le mani, (alimentazione base di Zambia e Malawi) anche loro felici e riconoscenti di avere un lavoro e insegnare.

Quattro giorni di incontri burocratici con personaggi importanti come l'arcivescovo di Lusaka, il sindaco di Kafue, il ministero dell'educazione, per fare in modo che la scuola diventi granted aid, così che il governo si dovrà occupare degli stipendi degli insegnanti che potranno pure essere più alti. Nel frattempo stavamo nel parish dalle suore che gestiscono queste community schools, incontri anche con loro e... missione compiuta!

L'Home Village è una residenza protetta per 29 piccoli orfani di entrambi i genitori (dai 2 ai 16 anni), aperta grazie all'aiuto di alcuni italiani.

I bambini sono suddivisi in cinque case, ognuna con una mummy, acqua calda grazie a pannelli solari e armadi ordinatissimi. Un piccolo orto, una zona giochi e la fortunata possibilità di andare a scuola. L'accoglienza che ci aspetta è calorosissima, emozionante, tenera.

Dopo poco i bimbi rompono il ghiaccio e sono subito tutti in braccio, a giocare, suonare e ballare. Si divertono a farsi fotografare e sono orgogliosi di farti vedere il loro letto.

July 2011, we arrive in Lusaka - Zambia to visit the project that Davide has in Solobon, Kafue and then the trip begins... heading towards the north, after a long journey on a local bus we arrive in Chipata, the capital of the Eastern Province. From there we reach Mfuwe to visit the South Luangwa National Park and afterwards we go towards the Malawian border.

Anticamente chiamata Aegylon, Αηγυλον dai greci e poi Capraria dai romani, deriverebbe il nome dalla presenza di capre selvatiche nell'isola, ma secondo un'altra ipotesi il toponimo deriverebbe da un tema mediterraneo *karpa con il significato di "roccia".

Weekend a sorpresa con mare azzurro cristallino, passeggiate nella macchia mediterranea e giro dell'isola in barca tra gabbiani corsi e colorate scogliere, pesce fresco e tanto caldo! Magnifico!

Ci rivediamo ai primi di novembre con la tradizionale Sagra del Totano di Capraia....slurp!

LUISAVIAROMA.COM celebrates its 10th anniversary of online activity by presenting "FIRENZE 4EVER...IT'S MAGIC" 10-12 June 2010.

A unique fashion event where the virtual becomes reality. The first party for fashion bloggers ever organized: for three days Florence will be invaded by the most famous and most creative fashionites and opinion leaders of the field.

Susan, while trying a particular and quite extravagant Gareth Pugh's dress, said: "I was wowed by all of the choices - I rarely see Gareth Pugh in stores. And there were some very chic limited edition pieces - for the woman who wants something no one else has."
She really felt in love with the colorful summer bags by Greek designer Stalo Markindes and made a few discoveries while browsing the store!

Saltimbanco -from the Italian "saltare in banco", which literally means "to jump on a bench"-explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city.
Saltimbanco is a Cirque du Soleil signature show inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual vocabulary, the show's eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.

Tanto per cominciare si dovrebbe iniziare morendo, e così il trauma è bello che superato. Quindi ti svegli in un letto di ospedale e apprezzi il fatto che vai migliorando giorno dopo giorno. Poi ti dimettono perché stai bene e la prima cosa che fai è andare in posta a ritirare la tua pensione e te la godi al meglio. Col passaredel tempo le tue forze aumentano, il tuo fisico migliora, le rughe scompaiono. Poi inizi a lavorare e il primo giorno ti regalano un orologio d'oro.
Lavori quarant'anni finchè non sei così giovane da sfruttare adeguatamente il ritiro dalla vita lavorativa.
Quindi vai di festino in festino, bevi, giochi, fai sesso e ti prepari per iniziare a studiare. Poi inizi la scuola, giochi con gli amici, senza alcun tipo di obblighi e responsabilità, finchè non sei bebè.
Quando sei sufficientemente piccolo, ti infili in un posto che ormai dovresti conoscere molto bene. The Park of the Monsters (Parco dei Mostri) is a Renaissance monumental complex located in Bomarzo, Italy. The gardens were created during the 16th century by Vicino Orsini.
The park's name stems from the many larger-than-life sculptures, some sculpted in the bedrock, which populate this predominantly barren landscape. The park of Bomarzo was intended not to please, but to astonish, and like many Mannerist works of art, its symbolism is arcane: examples are a large sculpture of one of Hannibal's war elephants, which mangles a Roman legionary, or the statue of Ceres lounging on the bare ground, with a vase of verdure perched on her head. The many monstrous statues appear to be unconnected to any rational plan and appear to have been strewn almost randomly about the area, "sol per sfogare il Core" ("just to set the heart free") as one inscription in the obelisks says.

...in the end of the 17th century a major earthquake accelerated the old town's decline... in the 19th century Civita di Bagnoregio was turning into an island and the pace of the erosion quickened as the layer of clay below the stone was reached in the area where today's bridge is located. Bagnoregio continues as a small but prosperous town, while Civita became known as "il paese che muore" (in Italian: "the dying town"). The town is noted for its striking position atop a plateau of friable volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley, in constant danger of destruction as its edges fall off, leaving the buildings built on the plateau to crumble.

Apro la porta di casa mia, e la luce si accende, da sola. Hanno inizio le tecnologie. Uno spazio dove togliersi le scarpe, e il gradino per entrare in casa, con un finto parquet.
Quarto piano (terzo europeo, che qui il piano terra vale come primo piano) di una stretta palazzina di sei (cinque), appartamento di mezzo (ce ne sono tre per piano).
Sguardo rivolto a sinistra: il buco per la lavatrice che manca, il lavandino con annesso armadietto/mensoline e rubinetto estraibile. E' comodo per tenere il lavandino pulito. Segue il blocco cucina con un fornello alla giapponese, uno solo, il lavandino per i piatti e il frigo.
A destra ci sono due porte. In una c'è un cesso col computer per controllare il getto di acqua per pulirsi il deretano. Temperatura dell'acqua, pressione, aspira odori, riscalda asse graduabile, tipi di getti diversi. Nella seconda porta c'è la doccia e una vasca, larga metà di me. Anche qui un computer che ti riempie la vasca alla temperatura desiderata e poi ti avvisa quando ha riempito i suoi 180 litri con un "segnale sonoro" (cfr, capitolo sull'inquinamento acustico del mio libro sul taiko).
Il tutto in quattro passi.
Si entra nella camera rettangolare (stretta e lunga), la finestra è in fondo con un micro balconcino (per stendere, se ne hai il coraggio), un armadio dentro il muro. In più ho un letto singolo con due piumini, e una piccola libreria alta 80 centimetri (tanto si sta in terra). Per ora la mia valigia vuota mi fa da tavolo.
Pareti bianche, tipo di compensato. Il condizionatore che fa un gran rumore. Ovviamente dispositivo anti incendio e allarme in caso di terremoto.
Vedo altri appartamenti, cavi, molti cavi, ma la via è piccola e tranquilla. Vedo anche il mio ufficio, lassù in alto.

Sto bene. Ma fa un pò di tristezza.

Ad avere queste tecnologie nella casina in campagna...

(Ho ancora problemi di fuso orario, domani - domenica mattina - mi sveglio alle 6, per andare a Tokyo per lavoro)
